German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP)
Of all the hunt, point and retrieve gun-dogs introduced from mainland Europe to the UK after the 1939-45 war, German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP) have been the most outstandingly successful.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a breed renowned for its scenting abilities and is a powerful and alert dog, covering plenty of ground, and standing tall.
They make excellent drug detection dogs and are very successful at border control work.
Short-backed and with a good bone structure, the German Pointer looks every inch the excellent worker he is. The dogs are keen to please and are immensely loyal, affectionate and gentle.
Our GSPs have a short coat with a base colour of liver with variations of white spotting or ticking. They are elegant dogs and will give a lifetime of devoted loyalty.
Broadbents German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP)
We have been fortunate to work along side Geoff Sutherland (Sutherlands, GSP) over the past few years with our breeding programme. He has been working predominantly in the field hunting over the past 35 years, and Geoff's knowledge and expertise has enabled us to develop top hunting genetics for the New Zealand conditions and is highly regarded. He has written books on the basic training of GSPs.
Our “BROADBENT” German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP) pups are field tested, vaccinated, micro chipped, vet checked and docked. All come with unrestricted pedigree papers, a written guarantee and a copy of Geoff Sutherlands book on basic training. These GSPs are bred to be affordable for the serious shooter wanting to hunt deer, pheasants, tahr, pigs, quail, goats, geese, wallaby, rabbits, possum, turkeys, hares, swan, paradise duck or peacocks. In summary, they will hunt all types of upland game and fur. Ideal for fulltime work for professional cullers.
They have massive ability with a very good nose, and their versatility means they will hunt anything you wish to train them for as they are very versatile. Our German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP) are enthusiastic and easy to train. We have kept them toward the smaller scale of the breed standard which is very popular with the hunters using helicopters, quad bikes or boats. This also makes them more acceptable in the household environment.
GSPs are great around the home - they are quick to let you know if any thing unusual is happening around the place, especially at night!
In the field their strong hunting bloodlines come to the forefront. GSPs love the water and will swim, find, point, wind and retrieve. They will keep working hard all day and love relaxing in the evening in front of the fire!
